Bach’s harpsichord concertos are often revisions from earlier concertos for other instruments. While most of those early versions are now lost to us, the 2 concertos adapted from the violin give us an intriguing prospect to investigate Bach’s revision process. What makes it even more interesting is that the concertos are better-known in their original violin versions, making it all the more easier to notice the things that went missing in the harpsichord version and also appreciate the extra flair Bach had inserted with the keyboard.
Join us in this afternoon concert at the cosy setting of Quarryside to experience the up-lifting effects of Bach’s showmanship! Audiences can also follow Stephen Hung’s YouTube or IG channels for details and demonstrations of Bach’s revisions.
